Or to be there, in 1975, the explosive Sally Can’t Dance/Metal Machine Music/Coney Island Baby era, when Lou Reed arrives in Italy – that Lou Reed, skinny as a nail and in the grip of so-called sweats, and to stand behind him for the whole tour as his recordist – all the more so with the notorious tranny Rachel Humphreys next to him? «When Lou would stop rehearsing, he would pounce on Rachel like a pig, rolling around with her in the corner of the studio, he really liked her, he attracted her, as they say in Rome; I was a bit disgusted, to be honest, but it was none of my business, I was supposed to be interested in the artist, it wasn’t my place to judge his private life, however dissolute». O ancora esser là, nel 1975, epoca esplosiva Sally Can’t Dance/Metal Machine Music/Coney Island Baby, quando Lou Reed arriva in Italia – quel Lou Reed, magro come un chiodo e in preda ai cosiddetti sudorifreddi, e stargli dietro per tutto il tour come suo discografico – tanto più con accanto il notorious trans Rachel Humphreys? «Quando Lou smetteva di provare, si buttava addosso a Rachel come un maiale, rotolandosi con lei in un angolo dello studio, je piaceva proprio, l’attizzava come si dice a Roma; io ero un po’ schifato, a dire il vero, ma non erano affari miei, a me doveva interessare l’artista, non spettava a me giudicare la sua vita privata, per quanto dissoluta».
